Lucy's Geoffrey

I went to a ‘FIRST’ robotics competition training boot-camp two days of these holidays. At the end of the second day we had a robot we had built from various parts that we got in a box. Ours had a catcher and an arm that hung out in front; designed to push and grab/lift the scoring rings, respectively.
My team-mate Lucy drew this (slightly unfinnished) sketch of our robot ‘Geoffrey Junior” (no I did not pick that name >.<; and yes you can click to make it bigger). Don’t ask me how it got that name, but it might have had something to do with the fact that I was the only guy sitting at my table (which also somehow lead to our team being called ‘Team Geoffrey’ -_-; )

For the mini competition that was held at the end of the two days we did fairly well. I was the driver for our team, and I must admit I was impressed at how well the stearing and driving handled. It was a beauty. The goals of the game were a little complicated, but basicly the best ways of scoring were to: get rings into the marked off areas (1 point per ring, about 25 rings of each teams colour on the field); get a ring on a spike located on top of a movable platform (20 points); get a ring on to one of the platforms (3 points per ring); and have the platforms on the map moved to your side of the field before the end of the match (5 points per platform on your side, 4 platforms possible). With all these rings and platforms dotted around a rather small playing field (which also had 3 other robots on it, two enemies and one ally) I found that this game was quite hectic, and so I didn’t really get much of a chance to try out the arm we had installed to get rings onto spikes. Instead I went for a much simpler option of getting all the platforms on our side of the middle line. That worked great, and we came quite close to the top of the ranking, however we didn’t qualify for the finals. A pity, but it was a lot of fun to play and being able to drive the thing my cool team had been designing and making was a great experience.

Time of writing: 10th of July. But I’ll make the post arrive while I’m in Australia next week.

Caiya

Caiya. That name -kinda- fits, but it is still subject to change. If you have any suggestions, please do comment and let me know. ;)
“Balloon?” I hear you ask? Hey, she likes balloons, get over it. ;) Everyone has their quirk; this chick totes a balloon on the end of her staff thing. Good, random drawing times.
I must be getting better at drawing, ‘cos this picture also turned out pretty ok. And it was in about the right shape I wanted. The clothing was a bit of an ordeal to design, but I went for something a little Christmas/winter -y with this furlined costume. Everyone likes winter. :)
If you look closely you’ll notice that this is a slightly different type of eye to what I normally do. I like it, and its good to try something new. Once again we have Mark Crilley from youtube to thank for this with his very interesting 100 ways to draw manga eyes, from which I got this new type of eye (well, I sorta molded it to my own. The one I looked at was number 30). This type of eye doesn’t really have so much a pupil, just a lighter area below where the pupil would be, and a nice sized highlight up top (although the light area is hard to see on this picture). Below is a drawing I did of the type of eye I wanted before I drew them on the girl.

Did I forget to mention, this girl (Caiya for now) is from the same story as Emiko? ;)

Emiko Pretty -darkhair -small -colour

Here we go, this is something new. No, not the art, these are all thechniques I’ve used before in varying degrees. The difference is: here we have a picture that I sat down to draw, rather than one that just came. In that I knew what I wanted to draw before hand, and managed to draw it with a good portion of success. No the picture is not perfect, but it marks a good leap for me in terms of how I feel about drawing. So in that way, I love it.

This is Emiko, a character in a story I’m tossing around up in my head. She is the chick I drew before in a crappy speed-chibi for clothing concept. This here is the real deal. No its not the picture I said I was working on when I drew the chibi, that is an action shot that still isn’t finnished (don’t hold your breath folks). I drew this picture with the intention of making it a ’shiney’ picture. As in, one of those romantic or plot moving moments where all of a sudden the girl gets super shiney hair and eyes. To that end, the eyes are rather large, and the hair has extra detail and more strands and directions. I think it turned out pretty good considering I havn’t tried that aproach before.

And now its 2:30am on Saturday night (Sunday morning?). I think I’ll make this post go up Sunday night ready for Monday ;) . Man I’m tired, but it was worth it. This picture wins. Hey, I might even make a nice background for it. And maybe it could become a wallpaper. O.O

Keep dreaming Hiro. >_>

When Your Best

This is a sad flower I drew when I was sad today. It helped to relieve the sadness and turned out pretty good so I gave it the honour of a colour job and a depressing quote ala despair.com. :)

Appart from that, I have started a new picture thats turning out pretty darn awesome so far. For it I’m going for a ’shiney’ picture. Like the romantic scenes in a soppy anime where the girl suddenly has very shiney eyes, and hair. And the hair waves dramaticly and stuff. :D
It is Emiko again, but with a slight edit to the hair. Now it has more of a side part than before.
Hoping to get that up for next week’s big picture.

Sorry for the late update! >.<;
Been a bit busy with other stuff than drawing (I know, terrible eh!). But Seminars are behind me so for the now I can do a bit more drawing hopefully.
